St Mary and St Gabriel
Sharing the love of God
The Parish Church of St Mary and St Gabriel, South Harting, is part of the Church of England. Our Bishop is The Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner, Bishop of Chichester, who is assisted by The Right Reverend Mark Sowerby, Bishop of Horsham.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our Rector, Mark Morton, on the 7th May 2019.
Mark became our rector in 2011. He was a passionate preacher and teacher of the faith both of which were greatly appreciated in our Benefice. We give thanks for the vitality of his life and Christian witness.
As a Benefice we will be able to carry forward Mark’s legacy and continue to build on the wonderful gifts of his ministry and service.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Sharron, Esther and family in their great loss.
Please refer any church matters to the Churchwardens, Hatti and Sarah – click here for the contact page. Information about services will be updated regularly.
We are fortunate to have the assistance of two Readers, Patricia Grigsby and Michael Casement.
St Mary and St Gabriel (the Parish Church of South Harting, West Harting, East Harting, and Nyewood) is part of the United Benefice of Harting and Elsted with Treyford cum Didling. Services alternate between the different locations, so please check before attending a Service.
We have an active Choir and also a group of bellringers. Volunteers are always encouraged!
As a Church we try to serve Christ and witness to God's love within the local community. Many of our members are active in local groups and societies - the Village Shop, the Village Minibus, South Harting Youth Club etc. One thing we do not want to be is a holy huddle.
As a 'typical' parish church, we are not 'high church' or 'low church', catholic or evangelical, conservative or liberal. We just aim to be as faithful to God as possible in the setting where we live. You are most welcome to join us on our journey of faith.
